Unwin BestVest

The Unwin BestVest is a seatbelt positioning device designed to ensure the seatbelt path is correctly fitted on the occupant's body.

The Bestvest is suitable for wheelchair based passengers and can also be used with regular vehicle seating positions to help with positioning of the seatbelt.

The harness/vest is fitted onto the occupant before getting into the vehicle. The harness is fitted to the vehicle seat (no anchor point is required).

The harness can moved from vehicle to vehicle and must always be used with the vehicle seatbelt.

Important information for parents: The Unwin BestVest is a specialty product designed for occupants with disabilities and medical conditions. This type of product should be prescribed by an allied health professional, such as an occupational therapist and physiotherapist.

The Unwin BestVest is supplied by specialist disability suppliers and there are legal requirements to comply with when using it.

Most harnesses and vests available in Australia are positioning devices, or devices used to reduce the risk of occupants getting out of their vehicle seat. The vehicle seatbelt is used with the Unwin BestVest at all times and continues to be the primary form of restraint for the occupant.

There is no Australian standard for this type of harness/vest. A new standard is currently being developed AS 5384 Accessories for seat belts for use in motor vehicles which will include harnesses and vests.
